Meet Kay & ODee Expert Haircraft. Eco-Conscious Values. A Space for Everyone. Hello and welcome! I’m Kay, the face, hands, and heart behind Kay Ashbrook Salon—and this is ODee, my gorgeous Alaskan Malamute and official salon dog! My journey in hairdressing began back in 1998, and I’ve been behind the chair consistently ever since. Over the last two-plus decades, my passion for hair has only grown, leading me to achieve some of the highest accolades in the industry—including becoming a Wella Master Color Expert and a specialist Hair Extensionist. I’m a firm believer that you never stop learning. That’s why, alongside my daily salon work, I recently graduated with a BSc in Salon Management to ensure I'm always bringing the absolute best knowledge, trends, and care to my clients. Why I Went Self-Employed: The Microsalon Experience I made the choice to go self-employed because I wanted to step away from the rushed, high-volume salon environment. I wanted to build a space where I could give my clients the exact time they need, without compromise. Today, ODee and I work together from my custom-built home microsalon. By working independently and managing my own diary, I’m able to use luxury, premium quality products on your hair while still keeping my prices realistic, fair, and affordable for everyone. My space offers the best of both worlds: it can be a lively, social hub or a quiet, private sanctuary depending on what you need that day. Whether you want to catch up and chat or just completely switch off and enjoy the luxury massage backwash, you are always welcome exactly as you are (and ODee is always ready to offer a warm, friendly welcome, too!). Sustainable, Professional Care I believe that exceptional hair shouldn't cost the earth. Part of my mission in running my own business was taking personal responsibility for how salon waste is handled. That’s why, since 2020, I have been proudly partnered with the Green Salon Collective. We responsibly dispose of and recycle everything from leftover hair color to chemical waste and real hair clippings, keeping them out of landfills and waterways. I am also a proud member of the Freelance Hairdressers Association (FHA), ensuring the highest standards of industry professionalism, safety, and insurance.
